![]() She Walked With JesusBrenda Poinsett. She Walked With Jesus: Stories of Christ Followers in the Bible. New Hope. 2004. Wow is all I can respond with after reading this book. I had my eyes opened just a little more to just how radical Jesus Christ was in his treatment of women and how important women were in his ministry. I read the book through in one afternoon because I couldn't lay it down. I'm sure it will have the same effect on you. The book discusses fifteen different women or groups of women. The women included are: Elizabeth (mother of John the Baptist), Mary (Mother of Jesus), Anna, the Galilean women, Mary Magdalene, Martha of Bethany, Mary of Bethany, the women present at the cross, Dorcas, Eunice and Lois, Priscilla, Phoebe, Titus's helpers, and Timothy's widows. Each chapter includes appropriate scripture references so you can read for yourself what is told about these women in the Bible. Since we don't have detailed bibliographies, the author had to make some predictions about the lives of these women based on her knowledge of New Testament times. RecommendationThis book was used during the 2004-2005 year by the Southern Baptists' mission reading program. It would make an interesting 13 week Bible study for a group of women or teenage girls. The book is easy to read and holds your interest. I personally like Brenda Poinsett's writing style so much that I would like to find more books written by her. I strongly recommend this book to any young or older woman seeking a clearer understanding how Christ's relationship with women. It'll challenge you about how much a Christian woman can still accomplish in today's world. Where Would You Like to Visit Next?Christian Reviewer -- webring entry |
