Dismantling Evolution: Building the Case for Intelligent Design

Ralph O. Muncaster. Dismantling Evolution: Building the Case for Intelligent Design. Harvest House Publishers. 2003.

Dismantling Evolution is divided into five parts. It is necessary to study each part carefully to fully understand why evolution is not good science and why Christians, in particular, should refuse to accept this concept as scientific truth.

Using his background as an engineer, Muncaster evaluates the "strength of the bridge" between nonliving and living organisms that exist today. He looks at whether there is any way to bridge the gap between the two groups of "matter". The alternative view is to believe in "intelligent creation" by a force greater than ourselves - Christians call this force God. This book evaluates the logical conclusions reached by those believing in both schools of thought.

Part I: A Bridge Between Nonlife and Complex Life

Students are taught that evolution is comprised of a chain of events that took place - this is called naturalistic evolution and is what Charles Darwin originally hypothesized. However, scientists today are still struggling with the problems in this theory that Darwin himself acknowledged. Therefore, we should be careful to call this the theory of evolution and not teach it as fact.

One of the first flaws in this bridge was learning that even leading evolutionists define "naturalistic evolution" differently. One of these leaders claims that evolution only predicts changes within a species that will occur through natural selection. This evolutionist (see page 21 of the book for more details) says that evolution does not predict that organisms will get more complex.

Another problem is that Darwin himself said that natural selection only succeeds by accumulating minute modifications at a time. Most of today's evolutionists claim that substantial changes took place at various times in our evolutionary history. Even Darwin was concerned about the total lack of transitional species that would show one species was evolving into a different type of species. No evolutionist can point to a single fossil today showing that this occurred.

The author also lists modern day scientists who are asking "where life exists" within our bodies. What is it that changes our collection of atoms into cells that have a definite purpose and organization? It is well known that our cells are being replaced daily. What keeps us the same even though our body is totally replaced every five years?

Muncaster outlines the basic steps that must have taken place if evolution of non-living to living matter is to occur. He lists these steps: First, all chemicals necessary to create the first cell must have been in the same location at the same time. Second, something caused those cells to become "living". Third, cells that produced only by dividing had to change into cells that reproduced only sexually. Fourth, single celled organisms had to become multi-celled organisms with cells for specified purposes. Then, fifth, those multiple celled organisms had to specialize into the 1.7 million species currently known to scientists (including humans).

Evolutionists are still trying to discover how all this could have occurred by random chance. Many are beginning to admit that evolution is failing as a valid scientific fact.

The remaining parts of this book carefully analyze the steps in this evolutionary bridge. Once the mathematical probabilities of even having all the components of the first cell come together in the first place is understood, it becomes obvious to logically thinking people that evolution couldn't have happened as some would have us believe.

Book Recommendation

This book isn't for those unwilling to carefully review the facts. It takes time to read it and comprehend everything being said. I feel this is one of the better books on this subject because of the author's careful, logical approach to the subject. After all, it takes time for someone raised to believe evolution as fact to change his opinion.

Before you take offense at my audacity in stating that "creationism" or "intelligent design" is the only real explanation for how life came to exist, may I ask you to read this book? I strongly believe even those who claim to have no belief in God as our creator, as I do, will have to admit that something intelligent had to create life as we know it.
